A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step’ – Lao tzu

… and a step to create greater awareness in society for cervical cancer is being taken by AAS. AAS has been serving the society relentlessly taking steps towards enlightening the masses and making them aware of various issues which adversely affect our day to day lives. Our motto ‘Change attitude-Change your destiny’ stems from the fact that in our fast evolving and ever changing present day world, science and technology is making rapid advances, bringing with it new sets of conveniences. And it is how well we are able to take benefits of these developments that would subsequently ensure the progress of the nation. Our present focus and thrust is on the cancer of the cervix, which is commonly called cervical cancer. It is our endeavour to create awareness among women to go for regular screening and treatment to prevent this silent killer at the initial stage itself. It is also an attempt to salute women, on whose very laps civilizations are nurtured. In arranging this contest and award ceremony, we seek to honour these women, and even though the award will go to only the winners of the contest, our salute goes out to the hundreds and thousands of these unsung heroes of our society. It is our mission at AAS to make every woman aware of this deadly disease, both in rural as well as urban areas.
In arranging this contest our effort has been to bring out the varied skills of a housewife and in the rocess make her feel good about herself and more confident to face the world on her own terms. It is an attempt to also make her aware of the immense responsibility entrusted to her in bringing up children who will be an asset to the nation and humanity, and to give her back the respect and care that she deserves. On this occasion, I would like to express my gratitude to all those who have come forward with their support, to thank all the corporate houses and government agencies, and other sponsors, friends and family. We will continue to work hard for the betterment of society and keep serving to the best of our ability. I would also like to thank Team AAS, without whose wholehearted support this would not have been possible. And finally, to all those women who have come out and participated in this contest, once again, I salute you all.

—and it is this spirit and essence that Team AAS identifies with and through which emanates the sincere efforts that are being made by us. This strong spirit has been like a guiding principle and has inspired me to serve the society with all my efforts and resources. I believe that health and education are the primary building blocks of a happy society and every single step towards creating such a society, no matter how small, is worth the effort. With this belief in mind, we at AAS are doing our bit towards creating awareness and addressing various issues pertaining to health and education.
‘AAS Housewives Awards 2012’ is one such effort to acknowledge the unceasing, selfless love and care bestowed by a woman on her family and to bring home the fact that her health is of utmost importance . Through this endeavour, we also attempt to educate and inform the people (women in particular) about cervical cancer, the most common form of cancer affecting women in India. This cancer, which alarmingly takes the lives of almost 200 women in India every day, is preventable, if detected early. We at AAS are determined to put in our best efforts, inspire others and put up a fight to save lives and alleviate suffering of these women. We aim to organise more such programs in the future to create awareness about various issues and thus build a happy and healthy society.
I am indebted to all the people who have extended their wholehearted support. And finally, I would like to thank all the women who have participated, whether they make it to the final or not, they are all winners.

I am happy to note that ‘AAS’ is organizing the “Housewives Awards -2012” on 19th May, 2012 at Siri Fort Auditorium, New Delhi. The focus of the event to spread awareness on Cervical Cancer which is a very common cancer afflicting women particularly hailing from lower and middle income group across the world.
I would like to emphasis that the contributions of women in development of the society has been immense. They are the people who took pains in bringing up the generations which make the world a better living and tolerant place. Our ancient texts have also revered women, quote “Yatra Nariastu Pujyante, Ramante tatra devata”. The                                               decision of ‘AAS’ to felicitate women is highly laudable. I take this                                                   opportunity to wish the organizers a very successful event and hope                                                 that they will continue to take such noble                                                                                               initiatives in times to come.

It is universally acknowledged that women enjoyed a high status in the family as well as in the society in ancient India as borne out by Vedas, Puranas and Upanishads. Worship of mother goddess is prevalent in all parts of India. A time has come in modern India when women should be restored to their place of dignity and equality in society as enjoyed by nature.
I am very delighted to learn that ‘AAS’ is working towards the issues of restoring women’s status, alongwith tackling other Social issues. Their efforts to spread awareness about women’s ailments, particularly cervical cancer, are praiseworthy. Cervical cancer affects                                   one Indian woman in every five women suffering from this disease in the world. Spreading awareness about it and the methods to treat this dangerous               disease would help save many precious lives and families. I am also pleased to know that ‘AAS’ is organizing Housewives Awards 2012 and  honoring selected home makers in recognizing their contribution to their family and creating a happy home and a better society.
I wish the organizers all success in their endeavour.
